Here’s a perfect example of the importance of building personal relationships with your customers and how it affects your business.
I am personally addicted to Iced Americano’s (basically a watered down espresso). Nowadays, I can get these from any number of coffee shops, Starbuck’s, Second Cup, and Timothy’s, to name just a few, all within easy walking distance from my office. To be honest I have tried an Americano from all these coffee shops, and for the most part they are all good. Where do you think I end up spending my money? I go to the business where the owners and/or staff make me feel as though I am their most important customer. In this case it’s the Second Cup, the staff at the Second Cup remember my name, start making my coffee the moment I walk into the store (even when there’s a giant line), and are always extremely friendly. When I compare the service that I get from this store to the others, there is no question where I am going to spend my money.
If you’re just thinking about starting up your business, make it clear that each and every customer is to be treated with the utmost respect, and build those relationships, I guarantee you that your business will benefit in the long run. If you’re already running a business, do you treat your customers like I get treated at my local Second cup, and if you don’t why not?
