Being an entrepreneur

So I was just having at quick look at my stats, and noticed that someone came across my site by searching for entrepreneur.ca on Google. Check out the results here. Now, I like being ranked #7 for entrepreneur.ca, but what I found interesting about the search results was the link to BDC’s “Am I the Entreprenuial Type” questionnaire. With a mere 10 minutes and 50 questions the BDC will evaluate your potenital as an entrepreneur.

If you’ve been reading my site for awhile now, you’ll know exactly what I think of this. Zero.

In my opinion, there are a few key ingredients in becoming an entrepreneur,

  • Passion, I’ve talked about this before, and I feel that it’s the key ingredient in being a successful entrepreneur. Don’t just start any business, only start one in a field where you have a true passion.
  • Vision, turn your passion into a vision, and by this I don’t mean some flimsy statement about how you’re going to save the world. I mean a truely visionary statement, one that really paints a picture of where you would like to be, and finally
  • Drive, nobody ever said that this was going to be easy! But, if you pick something that you are truly passionate about and use that passion to build a great vision, you’ll have the energy to break through the inevitable The Dip.

One last thing, don’t be afraid to fail – but don’t set yourself for failure. In failure there are lessons to be learned. You can check out what I mean by having a look at my vision.
