I know that quite a few folks out there really don’t enjoy networking, but unfortunately it’s a vital ingredient in the overall success of your venture. I recently read a great book by Darcy Rezac called “Work the Pond!” and it will help those of us who are having a difficult time getting started in the arena of networking.
One of the most important points that I think this book makes is that in order to be a successful networker, a “royal”, you need to forget about what you’re going to get out of the encounter and always focus on how you can help the other party. Don’t make all your networking encounters sales calls and you’ll not only get better results, but it won’t be such a stressful endeavour.
I definitely recommend that you add this book to your reading list, and always make sure that you have your business cards with you!
One last thing, listen more than you talk and your success rate will skyrocket!

That’s a great point. The more people I help, the bigger my network gets. Never thought of it that way.
