Vision

It’s five thirty in the morning on August the 9th, 2008 and I am standing knee-deep in the Grand River, with my camera over my shoulder watching the birds look for their breakfast as the early morning mist slowly rises off the water and the trout are just staring to rise. Standing on my left is my very first business consulting client and as we’re discussing some ideas they had about their business, the Grand is serenading us in the background as it’s waters rush over the rocks submerged just slightly below it’s surface.

I listen – while tying on my own Grand River fly pattern – as they proceed to tell me what issues in their business are causing them unneeded levels of stress. I proceed to show them how to cast and watch as their stress seems to melt away as they practice casting the fly. We discuss other issues facing their business and brainstorm some solutions all while watching the world quietly drift by like the leaves on the river.

A few hours later, after saying goodbye to my client, and getting into my car for the ride home, I reflect on how energized this meeting has left me feeling, and how’s it has helped me realize a few things about my own ventures and what I could do to improve them.
