In a word, passion. I am not talking about something that you enjoy doing on the weekends, I am talking about something that you live, eat, sleep, and breathe. I am talking about something that keeps you up well into the night, and makes your friends just roll their eyes because in the last [insert number of months here] months it seems that it’s all you can talk about. That’s what I mean by passion. The last thing that you want to do at this very moment is simply stop working for someone else, and become your “own boss”. I guarntee you that in a very short period of time, “working for yourself” will seem just like working for someone else. As an entrepreneur you want (no you need) to build something special, something that you enjoy telling people about (aka bragging about), you can only do this if your are really, really, really passionate about your idea.
Now obviously passion is by no means the only ingredient of building a successful enterprise, but I will tell you that being passionate about your idea, and letting it show through in the way your run your business does give you an advantage over the majority of people who have just decided that they don’t want to work for someone else anymore.
